Holding a law degree from Cambridge University, Matthew Cartisser has been involved in the property sector for most of his professional life. As well as the UK, his time has also been spent in many of the EU countries in which Stonehill is currently active. He has long experience in the retail, office and residential sectors and was one of the first developers to enter the Polish real estate sector in the early 1990s and pioneered one of the nation’s first business parks in Warsaw. More recently his focus has been PBSA and contemporary living.
Bakary Sylla holds a Master’s degree in Law (Licence en droit). He has gained extensive experience in banking and fund administration with PraxisIFM Luxembourg S.A., ABN AMRO Investment Fund SA, Citco Fund Services in Luxembourg and Citi Hedge Fund Services in Bermuda. He has worked in shareholder servicing teams specialising in Luxembourg, Channel Islands, BVI and Cayman (listed) funds and has experience with different asset classes, in particular with money market and funds of hedge funds. His involvement in fund administration has encompassed different roles.
Lukas Batthyany has a Master’s degree in economics from the Leopold-Franzens Universitat of Innsbruck. His family has historic roots in Austria and Hungary, which post-1989 resulted in Lukas becoming involved in the family’s agricultural and forestry interests in Hungary. Equally at home in the property markets of Hungary, Austria, and Germany, in recent years he has become an expert on Hungarian and Austrian real estate.
A graduate of the Istituto Universitario di Architetture di Venezia, Ugo started his career in Milano as an architect in 1985. He then joined Gabetti Spa where he became head of the international department. He then moved to JLL and headed their valuation department before transferring to client representation in Italy on behalf of large multinationals such as Nike. As Italian country manager for Stonehill, Ugo brings with him experience across multiple asset classes and an in-depth knowledge of the Italian real estate market.
Dominic Braun has a Master’s degree in business administration and mathematics. He moved to Stonehill in 2015 from Pegasus Capital Partners and the Sontowski Group, where he specialised in development and real estate financing. At Stonehill, he is country manager for Germany and oversees new development activity.
Jacob gained a law degree from Exeter University. He moved to Stonehill in 2018, having previously worked for Macfarlanes and Schroders in their investment funds and corporate legal teams respectively. At Stonehill he is providing legal and transactional support across multiple markets, as well as coordinating relations between Stonehill and institutional investors.
Markus studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Vienna. Over a 10-year career since graduation, Markus managed numerous national and international university, office, hospitality, industrial and retail projects. He played an important role in managing the construction of the campus at the Business Economic University in Vienna and the construction of automotive factories in Germany and Hungary for Daimler and Audi and a student residence for Milestone in Budapest.
Mirjana Messerer specialises in operational management. She was assistant manager at Holmes Place in Vienna before moving to London to manage the former Nido student residence in Spitalfields, one of the largest private student residences in Europe. Moving back to Vienna in 2015 when she joined Stonehill, she has coordinated the delivery of the company’s 1,000 room development programme in the Austrian capital.
Maria has a degree in architecture. She was an associate director of JLL based in Milan for 10 years before joining Doughty Hanson, where she was the sales & marketing manager for the Italian market until 2010. Maria has been closely involved in the Italian development industry and has a detailed understanding of the planning and administrative processes involved in delivering complex commercial projects in many of the well-known historic towns and cities of northern Italy.
